GBH in the Pine trees
Not every wildlife photograph comes from spending long hours in the woods, quietly waiting for that perfect moment.
I spotted this Great Blue Heron while driving through the city looking for wildlife. I knew of a couple of places where runoff water collects, and I often check these areas because wildlife can turn up in the most unexpected places.
When I noticed the heron, I pulled over. There it was, perched in the pine trees, practically right above people's heads. What amazed me almost as much as the incredible beauty and detail of this bird was how many people had absolutely no idea it was there. Cars passed. People walked underneath. Everyone continued with their day, completely unaware of the magnificent bird sitting just above them.
We get so caught up in our phones, our responsibilities, and everything happening in our lives that we sometimes forget to look around. This encounter reminded me that we don't always have to travel deep into the wilderness to experience something extraordinary.
Sometimes, we just need to slow down, look up, and appreciate what's been right in front of us all along.
